The frosty season is in full swing, with us all waking up every morning to a beautiful frost, but needing to defrost our cars before heading out. But one commonly asked question from beginner gardeners is, will frost kill my garden?
Unfortunately, the answer to this question is yes, frost will kill your garden. You will be happy to hear that a mild frost may not kill all plants in your garden. But regular frosts and severe frosts will kill most of the plants in your garden.
The reason for this is the temperature is so low that it freezes the plant and the water in the soil. This means the plants are not able to gain the nutrients they need to survive. They are not able to move the nutrients around themselves to keep themselves alive. So a severe frost will, unfortunately, kill them. If your frost does not last too long it is possible for some plants to survive.
